Roman Villa
Just outside Rabat’s village core lies the Domus Romana, a museum built around the remains of an aristocratic Roman townhouse uncovered in 1881. Malta came under Roman rule in 218 BC, and this area, then part of the Roman city of Melite, served as a central base. Inside, visitors can admire beautifully preserved mosaics, terracotta pieces, and everyday objects dating back to the 1st century BC. The museum offers a quiet but compelling look at Roman domestic life and the legacy they left behind, making it one of the key historical stops in Rabat.
