Sliema’s main religious celebration is held in honour of Our Lady Star of the Sea (Marija Stella Maris), takes place every last Sunday of August. The parish, established in the mid-19th century, holds a week of devotional activities and street celebrations. The church is dressed in flags and lights, the town thrums with marching bands, and the statue of Our Lady is carried through the streets in a colourful procession. Expect fireworks, food stalls, and a festive atmosphere that brings out the best of Malta’s festa culture.
