Annunciation Church
The Parish Church of the Annunciation in Tarxien stands on the site of three earlier chapels and was constructed in the early 17th century in Baroque style. Attributed to architect Gerolamo Cassar and later alteration to his son Vittorio, the church featured twin bell towers by 1636, with the oldest bell that still chimes today dating to 1673. In 1740, six side chapels were added, and the façade underwent significant 18th-century enhancements. The titular painting, completed in 1874 by Italian artist Pietro Gagliardi, portrays the Virgin Mary, with bowed head, receiving the Archangel Gabriel's message that she would bear the son of God.
