Balzan

Standing at the heart of Balzan, the Parish Church of the Annunciation is a 17th-century gem. The foundation stone was laid on 26 December 1669, responding to the growing community's call for a larger place of worship. Completed in 1695, the church follows a Latin cross plan. Its Tuscan-style façade and Doric interior showcase the architectural elegance of the period. The church houses significant artworks, including the titular painting of the Annunciation by Giuseppe Calleja (1857), and ceiling frescoes by beloved Maltese artists Emvin Cremona and Paul Camilleri Cauchi, depicting scenes from the Rosary. The balustraded parvis is also of note as it features statues of the Archangel Gabriel and Our Lady by Sigismondo Dimech (1802), and earlier sculptures of St Peter and St Paul by an unknown artist.
