Birkirkara

St Helen’s Basilica (Il-Bażilika ta’ Santa Liena) is Birkirkara’s crowning glory. This majestic Baroque church is dedicated to Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, and is famed for housing one of the island’s most celebrated processional statues. Crafted by Maltese sculptor Salvu Psaila in 1837, the statue of St Helen is paraded through the streets every August during one of Malta’s most spectacular feasts. The basilica itself features twin bell towers, an opulent dome, and a rich interior filled with gilded ornamentation and sacred art.
