Patron Saint

Birzebbuga

St Peter

The titular statue of St Peter is a beautifully carved wooden piece created by Ferdinando Stuflesser in 1959. Depicting St Peter holding the keys of Heaven, the statue embodies the strength and humility of the fisherman-turned-apostle. Over the years, it has undergone careful restoration and conservation to preserve its fine craftsmanship and devotional significance. Each August, the statue takes centre stage during Birżebbuġa’s Feast of St Peter in Chains, when it is placed on a fishing boat and carried across the bay, a striking tribute to the town’s faith and seafaring roots.
