Iklin

Located on a gentle hill between Naxxar, Birkirkara, Lija and San Ġwann, Iklin is one of Malta’s smaller yet quietly charming residential localities. With a population of just over 3,000, the village developed primarily in the second half of the 20th century, evolving from open countryside into a peaceful suburban community. Its name is thought to derive from “l-iklin” (rosemary), an aromatic herb that once grew abundantly in the surrounding valley before urban development took over the landscape.

Despite its modern growth, traces of much older history remain, with archaeological finds dating back to the Bronze Age as well as Punic and Roman remains, suggesting the area was inhabited long before the village took shape.
