Dominating Senglea’s skyline is the Basilica of the Nativity of Mary, a church with deep historical and spiritual importance. It was first completed in the 1580s but rebuilt after heavy bombing during World War II. Inside, visitors will find remarkable artworks, including the much-venerated statue of the Virgin Mary, popularly known as Marija Bambina. The basilica is also home to fine baroque detailing, ornate marble works, and precious relics, making it both a place of devotion and an architectural treasure.

Its elevated position means that the church’s dome and bell towers remain a striking feature of Isla’s identity, visible from across the harbour.
