Mgarr

Standing proudly in Mġarr’s village core, the Parish Church of the Assumption was built between 1912 and 1946 on the site of an earlier church which had existed since around 1400. The village became a parish in 1898. Back then, the majority of the residents were farmers, and they asked their parish priest, Kapillan Ġlormu Chetcuti, to build them a church. At a time when resources were

scarce, farmers contributed their earnings, sometimes as little as a few cents per day, to make their dream of a village church a reality. Inside the church, visitors can admire the beautifully adorned altar and traditional Maltese craftsmanship, while its open parvice offers stunning views over the Mġarr countryside.
