Mgarr

Mġarr, like several other parishes in Malta, is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady, also known as Santa Marija. She represents hope, renewal, and divine protection, and her feast coincides with the historically significant arrival of the Santa Marija Convoy in 1942, which saved Malta from starvation during WWII. In Mġarr, the feast is celebrated on the first Sunday after the traditional date of 15th August. This shift was made to avoid clashing with the larger celebrations in nearby Mosta, where many Mġarrin would have traditionally gone to mark the occasion anyway.
