The Feast

Mosta

Feast of the Assumption

Every August, Mosta comes alive with the celebrations of the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, which is locally known as il-Festa ta’ Santa Marija or l- Assunta. Though shared with six other parishes, Mosta’s celebration is among the biggest and most passionately embraced. The festivities begin two weeks in advance (known as kwindiċina). On the feast day, the titular statue is carried in a grand procession around Mosta’s streets, accompanied by boisterous Marian marches and greeted by throngs of Mostin clad in sky-blue accents in honour of the Assumption. Spectacular ground and

aerial fireworks light up the skies, perfectly complementing the decorated majesty of the Rotunda.
