The Feast

Bormla

Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Unlike most festas held in Malta’s summer months, Bormla’s Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated in December, making it a winter highlight of the Maltese festa calendar. Running from late November to 8 December, it sees the town adorned in lights and decorations, while the church glows with red damask and glittering chandeliers. The climax is the grand procession of the silver-clad statue of the Virgin Mary, carried through Bormla’s streets to the sound of hymns and music from St George’s Band Club. Fireworks are another highlight, often synchronised to classical and modern scores, painting the harbour skies in colour. For locals and visitors alike, it’s an unmissable spectacle of devotion and community pride.
