Patron Saint
Dingli
The Assumption of Our Lady
Along with six other parishes across Malta and Gozo, Dingli honours the Assumption of Our Lady as its patron saint, celebrated each year on the 15th of August. The feast holds deep spiritual meaning, commemorating the moment the Virgin Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven, where she is crowned by Christ and God the Father. In Malta, this date also carries national significance as it marks the arrival of the Santa Marija Convoy in 1942, an event seen as a divine answer to the islanders' prayers during a time of desperate wartime shortages. Dingli’s devotion centres around its titular statue, a finely carved wooden work created by Anton Busuttil and his son in 1861.
