Floriana

The parish church of Floriana, dedicated to St Publius, is a striking neoclassical landmark crowned with twin bell towers and a majestic portico. Construction began in the 1730s to designs by the Maltese architect Andrea Belli, and it remains one of the town’s most prominent sights. Inside, the church is richly decorated with baroque altars, religious artworks, and marble flooring. St Publius is believed to have been the Roman governor of Malta at the time of St Paul’s shipwreck in 60 AD, making this church a site of deep historical and spiritual importance for Maltese Catholics.
