Patron Saint
Kalkara
St Joseph
Kalkara’s original titular statue was tragically destroyed when the parish church was bombed during World War II, leaving the community without its most treasured symbol. In 1949, hope was restored when a new statue of St Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, arrived in Kalkara after a solemn pilgrimage from nearby Cospicua. Carved in wood by renowned sculptor Ferdinando Stuflesser of Bolzano, Italy, and designed by Chev. Vincenzo Bonello, it is considered a masterpiece of religious
art. The statue remains the proud centrepiece of the parish feast.
