Patron Saint

St Julians

St Julian the Hospitaller

Saint Julian’s is dedicated to St Julian the Hospitaller, a medieval saint regarded as the patron of hunters and travellers. Tradition recounts that he devoted his life to hospitality and caring for pilgrims, becoming a symbol of charity and redemption.

The town’s titular statue, a six-foot work by renowned Maltese sculptor Carlo Darmanin, was commissioned by benefactor Sir Salvatore Mattei and delivered to the parish in 1893. Carried through the streets during the annual festa procession, the statue was carefully restored in a ten-month conservation project, revealing its original colours and gilded details and returning this cherished symbol of the parish to its former splendour.
