Patron Saint
Ghaxaq
St Mary
The titular statue of the Assumption of Our Lady is one of Ħal Għaxaq’s most treasured works of art. Carved in wood by renowned Maltese sculptor Mariano Gerada in 1808, the statue beautifully portrays Our Lady ascending into heaven, surrounded by angels and flowing drapery that conveys a sense of grace and movement. A masterpiece of religious craftsmanship, it holds deep spiritual and artistic
significance for the village. Each August, the statue becomes the focal point of Għaxaq’s feast celebrations, carried in solemn procession through the decorated streets.
