Church of St Paul

St Paul’s Church in Ħal Safi, also known as the Church of the Conversion of St Paul, is the parish church and architectural focal point of the village. It was built in Baroque-Doric style between 1727 and 1744, replacing an earlier, smaller church.

Consecrated on 10 October 1784, it features a single dome and one spire made of Maltese limestone. Behind the high altar hangs the titular painting by Stefano Erardi, depicting St Paul’s conversion. The church became parish centre in 1598 when Safi was declared a separate parish carved out from Bir Miftuħ.
