The Feast

Safi

Conversion of St Paul

Safi holds its festa for the Conversion of St Paul on the last Sunday of August, marking its patron saint’s feast with tradition and pageantry. Historically, a small feast was already held in 1575, but by 1725 external celebrations like processions were added.

Since 1840, the wooden statue of St Paul, made by Xandru Farrugia of Zejtun, has been paraded. The feast features band marches, fireworks, elaborate decorations, and liturgical ceremonies. Safi also has a local feast club (St. Paul’s Club) formed in 1929 to help organise increasing festivities.
