Fgura

Lying just inland from Malta’s historic Three Cities, Fgura emerged from a few farmhouses into one of the island’s most densely populated towns in the post- war decades. Its name is thought to stem from Gozitan settlers who brought the name “Fgura” with them, or from the fields under the noble Ficura family. Today its structure still lines the old countryside, but modern buildings, shops and family homes dominate the landscape. The town’s architecture reflects its rapid rise in the 1960s and 1980s, yet it carries echoes of its sandy tracks and open farm fields of an earlier era.
