The Church

Fgura

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Church

The parish church in Fgura stands out for its bold, modern architecture. Designed by architects Godfrey Azzopardi and Edward Micallef and completed in 1988, the building features a triangular structure with four large sloping walls that meet at the roof, giving it a tent-like form that distinguishes it from traditional Maltese churches. Inside, the use of reinforced concrete and minimalist design elements blends tradition with modernity. The church was officially consecrated in 1990 and is listed among Malta’s national cultural monuments. It remains the focal point of parish life and community gathering in Fgura.
