Ta’ Bistra Catacombs
One of the most significant archaeological remains in the San Ġwann area is the Ta’ Bistra Catacombs, dating back to the Roman period around the 3rd–4th century AD. These underground burial chambers were used by early Christian communities and consist of tombs carefully carved into the limestone rock. Although the site is not always open to the public, it forms an important part of Malta’s late Roman heritage, offering insight into early burial practices on the island.
