Patron Saint

Santa Venera

Saint Venera (or Veneranda)

Santa Venera is dedicated to Saint Venera (or Veneranda), an early Christian martyr traditionally associated with Sicily. According to legend, she travelled as a missionary preaching the Gospel and caring for the sick before suffering martyrdom in the 2nd century. Devotion to the saint spread widely across southern Italy and Malta, where she became the patroness of the town that now bears her name.

The parish’s titular statue, sculpted in 1919 by Karmenu Mallia, is the focal point of the annual festa procession. It was carefully restored and re-gilded in 2017, ensuring the statue continues to represent the spiritual identity and heritage of the community.
