Parish Church of Santa Venera

The Parish Church of Santa Venera is one of the most distinctive modern

churches in Malta. Built between 1956 and 2005

to designs by architect Ġużè Damato, the church replaced the older parish church that had served the community since the 15th century. Its architecture combines

Romanesque Revival elements with modern construction techniques, using limestone and concrete.

Although the church remains technically unfinished, its planned bell towers were never built, it stands as a prominent landmark in the town. Beneath the church lies a large crypt that served as the parish church during construction. The spacious interior reflects post-Vatican II liturgical design, emphasising openness and community participation.
